Nathan James

Over the last 20 years, Nathan has been guided by his passion for how the body works physically, mentally, and energetically. The common denominator for these bodies of being is movement. Through yoga, Nathan practices tracking movement on both a gross and subtle level, cultivating a deep awareness of how energy flows within the body. This practice allows him to explore not only physical postures and alignment but also the mental and energetic shifts that occur, fostering a holistic approach to well-being.

Nathan began his career working with athletes in a sports therapy clinic in Little Rock, Arkansas in the early 2000s. During this time, his thirst for adventure and learning led him to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA, where he experienced many styles of healing, including Gestalt therapy, various manual therapies, and yoga. At Esalen, Nathan deepened his understanding of the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, and he forged connections with an even greater network of healers and practitioners. These connections eventually took him abroad to both study and teach various forms of bodywork and yoga.

As a passionate student of yoga, Nathan’s approach to bodywork became intertwined with the philosophy and subtle energies that yoga offered. This growing interest led him to explore Thai massage, where he found a profound connection to these ancient healing practices. Nathan spent many months in northern Thailand studying Thai massage, eventually becoming a certified teacher of this art.

As a father, Nathan has coached his daughter in various sports, including track and field and softball. This experience has reignited his passion for working with athletes of all ages, helping them better understand their bodies as vehicles for longer, healthier careers in sports. Nathan’s holistic approach blends his expertise in bodywork, yoga, and movement with a deep understanding of athletic needs, empowering athletes to perform at their best while safeguarding their long-term well-being.

Nathan leads workshops for bodyworkers and athletes, focusing on maintaining high function and promoting recovery from the wear and tear associated with their physical pursuits. His sessions emphasize injury prevention, sustainable movement practices, and techniques for long-term performance and wellness.

 Genevieve James

As a child, Genevieve loved all sports water related. An avid swimmer, loved running sprints, and played all sports, volleyball being her favorite. She started her dance career at 13, joining a performing Brazilian Samba troop for 10 years, and then becoming a teacher throughout her 20’s. She primarily grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, when she wasn’t at the beach, she was down the coast in Big sur with her camera, hiking and exploring in nature.

At the age of 15, she received her first massage. During the massage, she had an “out of body” experience, and after the session she felt an immense sense of calm come over her. From then on, she knew she wanted to give this experience to others. It was after her first year working as a Massage Therapist that she was most inspired to train and work in a more clinical massage type setting.

She moved to Maui in 1999, where she conquered her motion sickness and worked on boats. She was first-mate for snorkeling and sunset sailing tours. She also started school for fine-art Photography.

In 2000 she headed to San Diego, where she completed her first Massage Certification Program and started working at La Costa, Resort and Spa. She also continued her study in the arts with Clay and Pottery, and worked at a Horse Ranch teaching kids how to ride.

Then she packed up her truck and drove cross-country to Boulder, Colorado, where she attended the Boulder College of Massage Therapy, a 1,000+ program. While there, she worked in a photography lab (back when those existed), and volunteered at a Horse Ranch learning Tellington Touch (animal massage).

Soon after graduation, in 2002, she headed back to California, where the coast and ocean life was calling. She landed her dream job at Post Ranch Inn, located in Big Sur, where she worked for 5 years. One of the greatest learning tools was access to the Esalen Institute, where teachers from all over the world come to share their knowledge, she took advantage of the amazing amount of incredibly talented Massage Therapists in the area, and learned so much about her trade through receiving as much as possible. Working at Post Ranch had it’s advantages as well, giving her the opportunity to act as Assistant Spa Manager, where her ideas for new treatments and operational standards became part of her work duties. During that time she continued dancing/performing, continued education in the Arts and took up Mountain Biking. During this time, she travelled to South America, where she visited Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil.

She made the move to Marin County in 2007, where she had been accepted in to the San Francisco Art Institute. After fear of becoming a starving artist won her internal debate… she joined the opening crew at Post Ranch’s sister property, Cavallo Point in Sausalito, and married her now husband and co-business owner, Nathan James. In 2009 they welcomed their one and only daughter, Lila, who continues to be the light of her life and the biggest inspiration to do/be/strive for light and love in this world.

Together, Nathan and Genevieve opened their first Massage studio in Sausalito in 2009. Then moving to Fairfax in 2011, they moved the business along with them to it’s current location in San Anselmo.

Genevieve became a Bradley Method Teacher and Doula in 2010, and taught Childbirth Prep classes for 4 years. She continues to work as a Doula, and teaches one on one Childbirth Prep classes.

Genevieve completed the 200hr Yoga Teacher Training through Prajna Yoga in Santa Fe, NM. She often uses Yoga Therapy techniques inspired from this training in her Massage Practice.

She received her certification in CranioSacral Therapy in 2014.

She graduated from “Ecole” a chocolatier training program in 2015 and founded an artisanal chocolate company “Cocoa de Cocoa”. This experience was a fantastic artistic outlet and also allowed her to join her community by selling her organic dark chocolate truffles and treats at the local farmers market until 2018.

Genevieve works full-time at her Massage Center. She draws on her 18+ years of experience in the field, and her personal experiences with injuries and trauma to support and guide her sessions with her clients. She gained confidence through learning from the best when it comes to the technicalities of advanced types of bodywork, and truly enjoys allowing her intuition to guide her work.
